Currently in its third year, the Garden of Dreams Inspire Scholarship is an exclusive scholarship opportunity for high school seniors affiliated with the Garden of Dreams Foundation. Each year, a minimum of 12 students are selected to receive $10,000 renewable scholarships. In 2017, additional scholarships of up to $25,000 per year were introduced. As part of their season launch, the New York Liberty hosted a special chess event with current players Brittany Boyd and Sugar Rodgers as well as assistant coach Herb Williams and NYL mascot, Maddie with Garden of Dreams children from the Department of Homeless Services. The players and children had the opportunity to learn chess from a Grandmaster, who shared advice and tips with everyone. Boyd, Rodgers and Williams also surprised a family with special tickets to the Liberty home opener against the San Antonio Stars!
