Our annual "Garden of Dreams Week" took place between December 14th and December 21st, 2021, and did not disappoint.

We kicked off the week with a virtual hospital visit at our Garden of Dreams partner, NYU Children's Hospital, with the iconic Radio City Rockettes! The next day, Carina from Maria Fareri Children's Hospital had her dream come true when she attended Christmas Spectacular with her family and also had the opportunity to meet the Rockettes - her idols!

This holiday season, Rangers player Chris Kreider and Rangers alumnus Tom Laidlaw teamed up to provide a special virtual surprise for a longtime Garden of Dreams family. After a tough year, Kreider knew the perfect way to brighten the holidays. Watch below see the holiday joy come to life!

Kyle, a long-time Garden of Dreams young person, was introduced to the foundation at just two years old. From Garden of Dreams partner NYU Medical Center and now 17 years old, Kyle continues to defy the odds of the severity of third-degree burns received as a child. Today, Kyle is stronger than ever and despite his physical disabilities due to the burns, he is determined to go to college next fall.

On November 24^th, 2021, current Knicks player Kemba Walker made a special holiday meal delivery to families in his native neighborhood of the Bronx, New York! With the support of Garden of Dreams, the New York Knicks, and the local Black woman-owned catering business Millie’s Peartree, Kemba provided over 300 meals to families affiliated with Garden of Dreams partners WHEDco, SCAN-Harbor, and the Department of Homeless Services. Thank you, Kemba, for being a great teammate on and off the court!

On November 11^th, 2021, young people from our MSG 4 Me program attended a special in-person mentorship session at Radio City Music Hall. Students got to learn straight from industry experts Bobby, Alex, Kenny and Priscilla, and even got to have a Q&A with two Rockettes! It was an invaluable learning experience that none will soon forget.

On November 9^th, 2021, Garden of Dreams kicked off the holiday season with a toy drive at the opening night of Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes! Over 200 toys were collected and then distributed to young people at our partner hospitals.

Students from our Rob Carter Masterclass were in the audience to watch the show and its incredible opening act – Garden of Dreams young person Dale, from Make-A-Wish Connecticut! It was an amazing way to launch into the holiday season and spread some cheer.

On November 21^st, 2021, Garden of Dreams and the New York Rangers came together to celebrate the annual Hockey Fights Cancer Night at the Rangers game. This special evening featured several Garden of Dreams young people across different in-arena elements. Daniela celebrated the end of her cancer treatment at Cohen Children’s Medical Center when she performed the ceremonial puck drop. Bianca, a three-time cancer survivor from Make-A-Wish Hudson Valley, stunned with a beautiful national anthem performance, while Oscar, from NYU Medical Center, got to practice his PA skills as our honorary PA announcer.

In partnership with the New York Rangers, Garden of Dreams hosted a special holiday meal delivery for the families at Hospitality House Staten Island, a center affiliated with Garden of Dreams partner Department of Homeless Services.

Current Rangers players packaged the meals, while players’ wives and girlfriends created holiday gift bags. Families filtered through fun, holiday-themed stations at the center while picking up their dinners and gift bags. Last Monday the Garden of Dreams Foundation, in partnership with the New York Knicks and TAO Cares, hosted a Thanksgiving dinner at the famed venue LAVO for 100 young people and families affiliated with the New York City Department of Homeless Services.

Hosted by Knicks broadcaster and TODAY Show contributor, Jill Martin, the star-studded event featured Knicks legends John Starks, John Wallace and Latrell Sprewell along with The Wire’s Hassan Johnson serving buffet-style dinner, a 360-camera photobooth, and basketball entertainment for the children. Earlier this month, Garden of Dreams, the Junior Knicks, and the Junior Rangers celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with 50 young people in the Bronx! Hosted at Garden of Dreams partner, WHEDco, coaches and clinicians from the Junior Knicks and the Junior Rangers led skills and drills activities for our future hockey and basketball stars. The youth also had the opportunity to learn from Knicks alumnus Jose Calderon and Rangers alumnus Tom Laidlaw themselves! Latinx DJ and Garden of Dreams alum DJ Nieco provided the tunes, and local Bronx caterer SGS Catering served empanadas and other delicious bites to cap off the fun and festive afternoon.
