Alicia Keys Rocks the Garden (of Dreams)!
March 2010
During Spring 2010, Fuse Rocks the Classroom continued to team up with WHEDCo, one of the Foundation’s partner organizations, to introduce high school students to life behind-the-scenes in the music television industry. Throughout the spring, students received hands-on experience working with camera equipment, production crews and script writers to develop the skills needed to create their original program, “The Chronicles of Alicia Keys”.
“The Chronicles of Alicia Keys” provided the teens with a platform to bring their own style to Fuse’s series, “The Chronicles”. Now, it was up to the teens to take their viewers inside the music video history of one of today’s music superstars – Alicia Keys. Aside from rating Ms. Keys’ top videos throughout her career, the teens took their show above and beyond.
On Tuesday, March 17, the students had the opportunity of a lifetime when they met and interviewed Alicia Keys for a segment to be included on their show. Before Alicia’s performance at Madison Square Garden, she spent time with the teens in the arena’s Green Room for a sit-down interview where they found out how it felt to perform in her hometown, what it was like growing up with Beyonce and Usher and who she hopes to collaborate with in the future… If Alicia teams up with Kings of Leon, the Fuse Rocks the Classroom students said it first!
Alicia’s genuine character and passion for working with youth blew the teens away as they entered The Garden to enjoy Alicia’s performance on “The Freedom Tour”.
