On December 6, Delta Airlines hosted the second annual “Holiday in the Hangar” event at John F. Kennedy Airport for 100 children from the Garden of Dreams Foundation, including children from SCO Family of Services and Steven and Alexandra Cohen Children’s Medical Center, two of the Foundation’s 22 partner organizations.
Bound for the North Pole, the children arrived at the airport eagerly awaiting their special boarding pass and we’re quickly off to the magical winter wonderland on a private Delta aircraft. Upon arrival at the North Pole, the children were greeted by Delta elves, the Coca-Cola polar bear, Rangers alumnus Adam Graves and Rod Gilbert, Knicks alumni John Starks, Knicks City Dancers, Knicks City Kids, and of course, the Radio City Rockettes and Santa. The children raced through the winter wonderland to explore the basketball activities at the Knicks Groove Truck, street hockey with the Rangers Road Tour, Wii gaming stations, Santa’s sleigh and much more!
In the midst of the fun-filled activities, the children had one more special surprise – pop artist Willow Smith. As Willow Smith was introduced into the festive hangar, the energy bounced from child to child as the children cheered and rushed towards the artist. Accompanied by her father, Will Smith, the daughter and father duo took photos with the children and shared their holiday cheer.
The “Holiday in the Hangar” experience was truly a once-a-in-lifetime memory for every child at the North Pole.
